its my blog and I'll crap on if I want to

I've been busting to find some time to post words, lots of things going through my mind - especially about the comments on that post, which continue to grow ever more interesting and thought provoking. Also a few little crafty things I've completed and a few more plans I've been hatching.

Instead I will take this brief moment to tell anonymous, who finds my what I wore today posts boring and narcissistic that I find anonymous nasty comments a bit cranky making. And kind of silly in an age when IP addresses ensure that no one can really be anonymous anyway.

I mean, I think blogging is by nature narcissistic and at least some of the time boring. And my reasons for blogging are almost entirely narcissistic - just as Narcissus gazed upon himself in the pool, so I gaze upon my life through the blog. You are right, this is exactly why I do it.

That the posts are perhaps a little more boring than usual may well reflect that preparing for an interstate move is about as boring as life gets. In this way I guess that the blog truly reflects life.

Also, I think the daily posts are boring in the way all data collection exercises are. Those who are interested in what I am trying to understand and come to conclusions about seem to be finding the daily posts a necessary (and possibly enjoyable) part of the journey. Not everyone just wants the executive summary! Sometimes looking at the detail and trying to learn from the nuances is the best bit.

But mostly I just want to say, you know, if you find my reflection boring then move along to something shinier and more suitable. Preferably without the comments that only serve to make bad vibes for everyone and that you aren't prepared to put your name to.

I wonder what blogs anon does read then ?

Me, I just unsub the offending blog from my reader. Life's too short to bag a blog I prefer less because it's not to *my* taste or interest.

I don't have time to hate.

Well I'm finding this blog a day business an interesting process, so do go on, because it's all about me, isn't it?

Just wanted to add, I've watched a number of bloggers deal with these 'anonymous' people now, and I have to say I like your way best. Do whatever you want - it's your blog! And if we don't like it, hey it's time to move on. We all do it, regularly.

Good luck with the move back to Vic.

i like the daily-wear posts. but then, i am fascinated by minutiae and domestic details. and wondering if i will ever be good enough at sewing to make any clothes for myself that i could wear out of the house! as for the anonymous commenter, well, i often tell my daughters, "i hate people. they suck." with the obvious understanding that "people" are not everyone, but those that suck the joy and peace out of others' lives...

can't say anything nice? don't bother saying anything at all.
Move along!

Totally well put! Go read something else anon... Make someone else grumpy.

How did I miss that post? I thought it was brilliant and encouraged debate (even if it is kind of one-sided through comments).

Really sucks that people leave crappy comments.

Pearly Queen said...

Don't let it get to you. I think of a blog as a personal diary that you don't mind other people reading. If they comment, OK, but you love the nice ones and ignore any others. I would just delete that comment and carry blithely on...

Great response Susie. By the way, I am really enjoying your daily what you're wearing! I think I should be doing the same. I like the detail and the data collection.

I read your blog now I think for more than two years. I really love it and the main reason for this that it really reflects daily life Living on the other side of the globe you may wonder why it is so important for me. Well, DH is from Melbourne and from time to time we consider the move. when this came up the first time I tried to figure out how life could be downunder being a crafter and a working mother of two. Your blog helped me tremendously in getting a feeling for this and I am very thankful. Keep on going!

greetings from Germany Gudrun

You are all totally lovely and I love that I know all your names! Thank you so much :-)

please don't ever stop posting about what you wore or what you have altered to wear, I LOVE IT. Blogs are SUPPOSED to be a daily journal of lives lived not glossy bullshit

I think your title says it all really. You have to post whay YOU want to write about, you send yourself nuts if you try to second-guess your readerships every desire, and your blog would be the poorer for it too.

Well, I for one am really enjoying the daily posts. For the same reason I enjoy reading many people's (absolutely narcissistic - the hubris of thinking anyone cares in the first place! Who do we think we all are, anyway??) blogs - because it lets me see the in between bits of normal lives that get left out of normal media - whether that's what you had for lunch and whether you liked it, or what you made today, or what you wore. If it's something I'm not interested in, I skim it, but on the whole I find (yours and other's) blogs inspiring and enriching, often in their very ordinariness and the way they remind me of the recurring themes of life.

Friends are interested in each other. Not as much as we are interested in ourselves, of course! ;)

And really. If you don't like something, and you are taking the time to not only read it and comment on it, what does that say about you?

Please never stop crapping on!

I don't find them boring at all. If you are a narcissist we are voyeurs. I like the 'boring' posts because they give us more context and information to add to our data warehouse to create a picture of you and your life in our minds. Imagine a house, and a family and person made up of only the vibrant, so called interesting things. If you walked into that house some small tidy corners would be in fine detail, but there would be so much that would be white space. Thank you for filling in some white space.

I'm finding these daily blogs anything but boring! Keep going, please! Anonymous might consider redirecting to more appropiate reading matter? Maybe http://www.hellomagazine.com/ ?

I want Jodie's gun, do you think she might have time to draw up a template and jot down some instructions on how to make one?

P.S.
I love your style - both sartorially and ethically speaking.

Sooz- again, a thought provoking and independent minded post. I started following you a long time ago when you posted about breast feeding and the 'better then thou'-ness that goes with it.
I enjoy your daily wear posts because I like your colours- its what I would wear. I LOVE your kids photos and my daughter often admires your girl's pics over my shoulder.
I admire your calm collectedness in moving North and now the return.
Saying all that; why are you exercised about a nasty anon comment? That's totally their prob if they dont like it and are rude enough to say so.Echo Nikkishell.
Keep on- reading yours posts is like sitting into a supportive chair with a cup of tea. Maureen

I'm really enjoying your daily 'what I'm wearing' posts. I'm a plus size too and love seeing what you wear and how you put it together.

I really enjoy reading your blog each day and still chuckle to myself over your 'roasted possum shit' on the barbecue post - highly amusing.

Totally agree with you about 'anonymous' - if you don't like what is on a blog then go somewhere else.

Innercity Garden's comment... love it!

Strangely enough as a non-clothes-maker, I also like the posts about what you're wearing. Probably because I know that sooner or later we'll all have enough quilts in our lives and I'll have to move onto something else... (gulp...)

i do love your daily natterings and as i have said a trillion times before, for a learning sewench like me it inspires me heaps as well as being FUN ! so there............

well i've actually been meaning to comment for ages how much i actually really enjoy these 'what i wore' posts! and the kids ones too, although is it creepy to enjoy looking at sweet pics of a strangers children?! i dont know the answer but your children look like very sweet and special human beings!

Either way, don't change a thing about you, your blog and what you like to post - because bugger anonymous - this blog is yours. I just don't understand negative comments like that, how petty and low can people go, spreading nastiness and sadness around the internets like that just isn't cool.

Please continue to 'crap on' to your hearts content as that's what i enjoy reading.

Well said. Some people really do have *issues* and are cowardly to boot... and yet you are gracious about it in return, so that makes you look even better than before.

sueeeus said...

You *are* gracious, and I'm glad to see there are so many commenters cheering you one here. Good grief, it's a wonder why somebody bothers to leave an unfriendly comment in the first place. What a waste of everyone's time. I simply don't get it. Not one bit. You just go on blogging YOUR way.

p.s. you look great.

Belinda said...

Yep, ditto, etcetera, etcetera, the end...
Scurry off to 'anonymity' sad, bored commenter; you are indeed way too windswept and interesting for this blog.

Don't worry Sooz. We love you. I say we, because I know for a fact I speak for lots of people! So there!

I'm mostly a lurker here but wanted to make a comment to support your attitude of "it's MY blog"!! I don't understand how there are people who feel it's okay to rain on others just because they are "anonymous". Hope that you don't take their negativity to heart and I hope that the closet commenter gets a more interesting life of their own soon.
